Do you ever feel that it can be hard to make sense of things that are happening in your life or relationships?
Do you ever feel confused, sad, angry or stuck in the communications that you have with others?
Do you ever feel that you don’t know how to move something forward or what is expected of you by your partner, your boss, your friends or your family?
Do you ever give yourself a hard time because you haven’t been able to fix a relationship or situation or has someone in your life given you an ultimatum that things must change? Maybe you’ve given yourself one because things haven’t gotten any better, despite your best efforts.
Life, and relationships, can be tricky to negotiate and sometimes it can feel like for every step forward, there are two steps back. Often the stakes are high because you have invested a lot in your relationships. Often others are affected by the decisions that we make and have a stake in whether or not the situation is going to work out long term, for example your children, partner, family or even your career.
I’d really like to help you to find a pathway forward so that you can get to where you would like to be in your personal and professional relationships. So that you can remain true to yourself and maintain (or build) your personal power within these relationships.
As a mental health social worker, I largely work from an Emotionally Focused framework and utilise both talking and creative techniques. I also draw upon techniques from strengths-based, narrative therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. I believe the counselling or therapy provided must be flexible to the client’s needs and different techniques are often required to work through different problems.
In my work with clients, I have found that it is often hard for clients to have the words to make sense of their problems and they need techniques other than talking to help them to move forward. I also believe the fit between a counsellor/therapist and client is extremely important and I will always aim to ensure that we work positively together.
I am open to your feedback as to how you think the work is going and am extremely transparent in how I work and will regularly check in with you to ensure that our work is meeting the aim of why you decided to come to counselling in the first place.
I look forward to hearing from you so that you can take that first step toward healing and moving forward.
